About Shannon

Have you ever run into the Grammar Police? You've just found the captain.

I'm Shannon. I was born in Pennsylvania, and I live in Ohio. I have a fabulous husband, a beautiful stepson, and one perfect unborn child growing fingers and toes as we speak. I have a few passions that a businessperson probably shouldn't go into, but I'm a real girl. I love Jesus, I love my family, I love books, I love the Pittsburgh Steelers. And I might love the Internet, but I'm not ready to admit it.

I graduated with a BA in English from Ashland University in 2001. After working the anything-that-pays circuit for a little while, I finally started my career with The McGraw-Hill Companies in the spring of 2003. I landed in the Science Department all those years ago and that's still where I sit today. As the Production Editor for the middle school science programs, I've gained numerous skills, including copyediting, proofreading, copyfitting, using style sheets, training editorial staff, maintaining (and, of course, using) style guides, communicating with vendors, and managing a team of freelance editors and proofreaders.

For the last few years, I've worked with Sage Publications and Appingo Publishing Services as a freelancer. Since I manage freelancers of my own at my full-time job, I've found it an easy transition to move toward freelancing. When the aforementioned child finishes growing its limbs, I'm hoping to go full-time with my freelancing career. For now, I have the time to edit all day and all night--it's preparing me for motherhood, I suppose.

Software I can maneuver: Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat (full version), Adobe InCopy, K4 Publishing System
